چکیده
In this study, we aimed to determine the effects of functional mandibular lateral shift (FMLS) on muscle mass, fiber size, myosin heavy chain type, and related gene expression in masticatory muscles (masseter temporalis), as well whether baseline levels could be recovered after FMLS correction growing rats. The appliance was placed mandible leftward by approximately 2 mm. After placement for 4 weeks, left side had significantly lower wet weight, mean cross-sectional area, proportion type IIa fibers than those right or control groups (p < 0.05), with downregulation upregulation IGF-1 GDF-8 expression, respectively 0.05). Following weeks devoted recovery from FMLS, parameters group were not different group, left-side enhanced simultaneously suppressed. These findings indicate that changes induced via tend revert normal conditions if intervention is eliminated at an early stage. Therefore, appropriate orthodontic treatment during growth period advisable prevent asymmetric alterations muscles.

Effects of the functional orthopaedic therapy on masticatory muscles activity
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to examine surface electromyographic (sEMG) activity of masticatory muscles before and after functional orthopaedic therapy with Sander appliance. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ten adolescents (5 girls, 5 boys) with an Angle Class II, division I malocclusion, 9-13 years old, were submitted to sEMG before and after functional orthopaedic therapy. To verify the n...
متن کاملThe effects of pain from the mandibular joint and muscles on masticatory motor behaviour in man.
Habitual chewing of a coherent bolus was studied in 12 dentate subjects with painful mandibular-joint disorders and 12 healthy, dentate controls. Bilateral electromyograms of jaw elevators, and jaw movement, were recorded for three complete masticatory sequences. Computer analysis was used to classify chewing movements as continuous or discontinuous. Root-mean-square (r.m.s.), myoelectric signa...

INTRODUCTION The objective of this study was to elucidate the influence of extraoral lateral force loading of the mandible on mandibular development. METHODS Thirty growing Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups: control, sham, and experimental. To determine longitudinal developmental changes, each animal was placed under anesthesia and immobilized in a custom-built body retainer to allow mic...

AIM This study was conducted in order to determine the ocular correction effects on electromyography activity of anterior temporal, masseter, sternocleidomastoid and anterior digastric muscles in children with functional mandibular lateral-deviation. METHODS This study was performed on 32 subjects, aged between 8 and 12 years with functional lateral deviation of mandible and oculo-extrinsic m...
